The Tanhouse Community Centre was converted from the former Tanhouse Primary School.
It contains Hamstead Library (which was originally in Broome Avenue.
The Hamstead Miners Memorial Trust have a display of mining material in the Centre. In 2007 a Neighbourhood Police office was opened.
