Red House Park in Great Barr consists of playing fields, woods, parkland and lakes. The park has Green Flag status and is an important amenity for the local residents and much work is undertaken by the Friends of Red House Park and Sandwell Council to maintain and improve the park.
In 1921 West Bromwich Corporation had bought the Red House estate with the intention of using the house as a sanatorium, but it was subsequently considered unsuitable for their needs. In 1929 the estate was opened as a park and the house used for refreshments.
The Red House itself dates from before 1841, having links to both the Addyes and Scott families who have been in Great Barr since the 1500's. It was sold in 2015 by Sandwell Council for conversion into private flats, with additional housing also being built on the site.
This web site will support the work of the Friends of Red House Park and to document the history of the Red House estate.
