Dartmouth High School

Situated in Wilderness Lane this secondary school was built in 1965, opening in July 1966, by West Bromwich Metropolitan Council and served Sandwell and part of Birmingham.

The school's final head teacheriwas Mrs Caroline Badyal. She arrived on a secondment from the Dormston School in Sedgley in September 2002, and received the job on a permanent basis in April 2003. She is the the designate head of the Q3 academy that will replace Dartmouth High School in September 2008.

On 17th November 2003 a fire caused serious damage to the school, destroying the Science block.It was closed for some weeks with the children being coached to other locations to continue their education. Temporary building were constructed pending the planned building of the Q3 academy on the site by 2009.

The last students left Dartmouth on the 11th July 2008. The Q3 Academy will open in the Dartmouth buildings. A new academy building is under construction and the move to the new building which is under construction is planned for 2010.

TV personality Cat Deelay and construction tycoon Pardeep Panesar are both former pupils at the school.

Ferndale Primary School

This School was formed about ten years ago by the meger of Tanhouse and Gorse Farm Schools, on the Gorse Farm Site.

Gorse Farm School

Gorse Farm Junior and infants School was opened in stages. The infants school in 1956 and the junior school in 1957. The school site become Ferndale Junior and Infants following the merger of Gorse Farm and Tanhouse Schools.

In September 2009 the college in Aldridge Road became the James Watt campus of the newly formed Birmingham Metropolitan College.

Previously it has been

  • Great Barr campus of Sutton College (1st August 2003 - 31st August 2009)
  • North Birmingham College (1992 - 31st July 2003)
  • Brooklyn Technical College 1949? - 1992)
The future plans are to demolish the college and replace by housing. A new college campus is planned for the site of the former Express and Avonmore Dairy in Aldridge Road.

Great Barr Primary is a two form entry school comprising fourteen classes, plus a nursery class, of mixed ability children. Children are organised into seven year groups – Reception to Year 6 - with an additional Nursery class.

At present there are approximately 448 children attending our school. Their ages range from 3+ to 11+
